Interventions - Recognised for Excellence

London Probation’s Interventions Directorate were informed in April 2007 of their successful bid for the Recognised for Excellence (R4E) award.  This makes London the first probation service to achieve this recognition.

Staff in Approved Premises, Community Payback and Offending Behaviour Programmes worked extremely hard in the early months of 2007 in their bid to achieve the award, and the hard work has finally paid off.

To gain the award, the three sections of Interventions mentioned above collected and presented documented evidence of service delivery and quality, which was then judged by external assessors from the British Quality Foundation.  In preparation, the R4E teams undertook two ‘self assessment’ days.  Their evidence was assessed by LP staff who have been trained in the European Foundation Quality Management (EFQM) model.

Audrey Asamoah, who has been co-ordinating the R4E work, explains: “Gaining this award means we will have valuable evidence of high quality performance which is externally validated and benchmarked against other organisations and demonstrates our commitment to deliver high quality services.  Just as importantly, this work provides a framework for learning and improvement activities.  It is an opportunity to improve the quality of our services to courts, offenders and the wider criminal justice services using a renowned business tool.”

As well as a comprehensive submission document, the R4E team presented their evidence to the assessors at an event on 4 April 2007.
