Victims

Man, Chain

As well as offenders, London Probation also works with the victims of serious crimes. We provide support to any victim of a sexual or other violent offence where the offender receives a sentence of 12 months or more.

The support includes providing information on;

Details of the sentence given

  • The offender's progress in prison
  • How decisions are made about release from prison
  • The safeguards that exist after the offender is released

The risk an offender poses to their victim is a factor when the courts are making sentencing decisions. Victims' concerns can also be taken into account regarding prisoners' release from prison.

Offenders and Victims

London Probation staff challenge offenders to face up to the impact of their crime on other people. By ensuring that offenders understand the effect their behaviour has on others, we help to prevent more people becoming victims.

Many unpaid work projects in London make a practical contribution to crime prevention - for example, removing graffiti or fitting security locks to prevent burglaries. This work gives offenders a way of making amends to the community for their crime.
