Welcome to the London Probation Information for Sentencers
webpage. This section of the site contains materials which will be
of use to Sentencers when presiding over cases which may result in
a community order. It also contains our regular newsletters, and
information about the quarterly Probation and Courts Forum.
Probation & Courts Forum
The Probation and Courts Forum takes place quarterly at London
Probation’s headquarters in Westminster. The Forum, chaired by
Basil Tyson, Magistrate and member of the London Probation Board,
is an opportunity for probation staff and sentencers to get
together to discuss topical issues. Membership to the forum is by
invite only, however, if you wish to find out more about the PCF
please email helena.thernstrom@london.probation.gsi.gov.uk

Annual Seminar for District Judges 3rd December

The annual London Probation Seminar for Crown Court
Judges will be held on 21st January 2009. Invites will be
issued shortly.
Magistrates Association Events
A programme of joint events with the regional magistrates
associations are planned for 2009. Watch out for information on
events in your region.

Probation, and provide and overview of the services operated by
Probation in London. Every sentencer should have a hard copy of
either the bench guide or bench handbook. If you do not, please
alert your local court SPO.

Sentencer Liaison Guidelines
The following guidelines were issued by the Senior Presiding
Judge for England and Wales in June 2008 and sets out ways that
sentencers and representatives of the Ministry of Justice should
liaise in order to assure that the court is best assisted to do its
work.
